Reading Carl's letters to his future bride was so uplifting. His heartfelt words; determined laser focused career aspirations, ahis interest in Sports, and obvious deep love for his (hopeful) bride to be reflected a very mature young man with an agenda targeting nothing less than "success"

I arrived in Pleiku in October of 1968. I was assigned to the 21 Tactical Air Support Squadron, FAC. My career specialty was 193, (Air Ground Communications. I was assigned to the MACV compound adjacent to Pleiku AFB. My duties were to support the FAC Pilots by issuing equipment and Flight Codes. Brief, Debrief, Track & communicate with each FAC Pilot. I occasionally flew with the FAC pilots as a back seat aerial observer. I never had the opportunity to fly with Major Karst. However I did interact with him on multiple occasions. Major Karst was a true professional. He maintained an Officers bearing. Yet he was always pleasant. He maintained a calm, controlled, serene demeanor, yet was also quick to laugh or smile on the rare occasions in which we had a moment of jocularity. I truly wish I could have flown with Major Karst.

A lovely post reflecting the life of a patriotic man. A Godly man. A family man. a "Good" man. I knew Major Karst to be a man with a passion to "part the clouds". A man who was professional; yet approachable. He constantly displayed the virtues of Honesty, Humility, Honor and Patriotism. Major Karst was Always "Professional"; yet always "Approachable.
