These are the first and last pages of a letter from my Mom that was never opened by my Dad. The letter was written in mid-November but not delivered by U.S. Air Mail until after Carl Karst was reported missing on November 16, 1968. Mom responds to news from Carl that he likely will be posted as a B-52 pilot to one of two Air Force bases after his tour ends in Vietnam - Loring Air Force Base in Maine or Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico. There is a thread of true love and devotion throughout Mom and Dad’s correspondence. Come heat or cold, Carl and Ruth were ready for the next step.

A lovely letter written by a Woman hopelessly in love; and devoted to her husband in every respect.
USAF Officer Karst was a true professional. A man dedicated to both his career, and to his family.
Carl was an example of how a professional Airman can be Strong, Confident, and Professional while; at the same time, being Thoughtful, Caring, Respectful, and Considerate. All traits that reflect (not weakness); but rather maturity, discipline, and ... strength. Thomas D. Penberthy
